Sit Less, Live Longer?

A clip on CBC The National recently highlights new research pointing to the health hazards of sitting. The US study suggests that limiting the amount of time spent sitting to less than three hours a day might increase life expectancy by two years. Regardless of whether you have a formal workplace wellness program there is a lot that employers can do to encourage employees to move more. Walking meetings, frequent stretch breaks, taking the stairs and lunch time walking clubs or yoga classes are just a few ways to encourage an active working environment.
Get moving and live longer!

Fluorescent Lighting making you sick??

When I was a child in elementary school classrooms we had big round lamps which hung from the ceiling and large windows that filled the room with natural daylight. I did well and was always alert.
Then when I went to Junior high I went to a newly built school, everything was different and so was the lighting. It was all new fluorescent bulbs.
I used to have problems staying awake in class and often passed out and had to be sent to the nurse's office. It wasn't my blood sugar levels or any other health concern.
It wasn't until years later that I discovered that I had a sensitivity to fluorescent lighting, and I found out that I wasn't alone.
When I was 29 and had returned home from 4 yrs of living in the middle east, I went back to college and I was nervous about the class room lighting situation. I was relieved to find out that they were using full spectrum lighting in the classroom so I was saved from this embarrassing thing that happens to me when I'm under fluorescent lamps for too long.

I recently did some research about this lighting situation and as many of my clients who have weak immune systems, suffer from  migraines, anxiety and depression happen to work in offices using fluorescent lighting.
I discovered  fluorescent lighting isn't that good for us at all, even Health Canada has informaton regarding it's suggested limited use.
Please take a look at this segment I have extracted from a petition 254  which I found on the page of Office of the Auditor General of Canada.

This is in regards to the use of fluorescent lighting and human health.

After reading this you might want to consider putting your desk near a window if possible.  If you are working without windows in your office then you had better get outside
for a "Day light fix" during your breaks and at lunch. The fresh air will do you a lot of good as well.
Ask your employer to change the lighting if it's possible. Most fluorescent fittings will accept "Full Spectrum" bulbs which can easily be exchanged for fluorescent.

It is important to be aware that CFL's (compact fluorescent lamps) create "Dirty Electricity" increasing EMF's (electromagnetic field emissions) and UVR (ultraviolet radiation) all of which can compromise the immune system with over exposure which is more than 3 hours!! This list also includes other office items such as computer monitors, imaging equipment and water coolers.
If you Google this subject you will find many articles on this subject.
I just wanted to bring this to your awareness.

Ground it out!!!
Stand with bare feet on the earth!  I learned this secret 38 yrs ago from Dr. John R. Christopher.
He told us to ground out the electromagnetic emissions and static electricity from our body by standing barefooted on the earth even during winter months for just seconds a day. Static electricity has an irritating effect on the nervous system. He noted that many of us are wearing rubber soled shoes and our feet never touch the earth. The rubber insulates the electricity and holds it in our body.
I do this and so should you! Summer is a great time to get the habit started.

Then there is Reiki. Having regular Reiki sessions is a great way to clear the body of "Dirty Electricity"   If you have been initiated in to the practice of Reiki you should be doing self Reiki techniques regularly. But to really clear the body it is best to have some one else give you a session or to stand on the earth.

Negative Ions
Spend some time in nature around moving water, ocean waves, waterfalls, fast flowing rivers and even fountains, they all give off negative ions that can counteract the effects of EMF's

Welcome to my new blog!

So often people will ask me questions about Yoga, Reiki and other issues concerning natural health.
I find that I am frequently repeating myself, so I thought that this would be a great way to share the answers to these questions and also to share information that I find valuable.
As weeks go by please check in now and then to see what is new. I hope I can make your visits worthwhile and keep you interested.
This is my first day getting started here so I have nothing to share at the moment. But I will soon!

By for now
